Water Resource Scientist
Irene is a water resources scientist specialising in coastal hydrogeology and soil science. She possesses strong technical skills in GIS, data analysis, and the monitoring of groundwater and surface water.
During her PhD, Irene focused on mapping shallow groundwater salinity in Christchurch to assess the exposure of municipal assets. Her research also included investigating saltwater intrusion from an estuarine river and assessing vulnerability to saltwater intrusion under rising sea levels.
Irene has worked in research institutes, universities, and a mana whenua organisation, enriching her expertise across diverse sectors. Her professional experience also includes irrigation testing, soil moisture monitoring, ecological monitoring, laboratory work, and dairy farm work.
